Introduction to Play Therapy
Play is the universal language of children. The Playroom allows them to express what they have difficulty saying with words and work through difficult issues using play.

Play Therapy uses a variety of play and creative arts techniques to alleviate chronic, mild and moderate psychological and emotional conditions in children that are causing behavioral problems and/or are preventing children from realizing their full potential.

Therapeutic Play, (including Play Therapy), is a well-established discipline based upon a number of psychological theories. Research, both qualitative and quantitative, shows that in many cases it is highly effective. Recent research by
Play Therapy United Kingdom (PTUK) suggests that 71% of the children referred to play therapy will demonstrate a positive change.
In the playroom a safe, confidential and caring environment (container) is created which allows the child to play with as few limits as possible but as many as necessary (for physical and emotional safety). This allows healing to occur on many levels, as well as a sense of self-mastery.

Research suggests Play Therapy is an effective form of child counseling, regardless of age, gender, or the nature of the problem, and works best when a parent, family member, or caretaker is actively involved in the treatment process.
