DOES YOUR TEENAGER REALLY KNOW HOW TO PUSH YOUR BUTTONS?

HAVE YOU TRIED THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER WITH THE SAME RESULTS?

In order for counseling to be effective, Teenagers need to feel that they can express themselves without fear of their confidences being violated. We enjoy this tightrope walk!

WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAVE MORE PEACE AND HARMONY IN YOUR LIFE AND IN YOUR FAMILY?

Our practice is designed to help Teens and their Families create healthier relationships and lifestyles. We accomplish this by creating a safe, caring, and non-judgmental environment, which allows the Teenager to engage in the therapeutic process. Our strength-based approach is goal oriented and solution focused. We find that collaboration is frequently the key to success and that small changes can produce big results.

Many Teens have no wish to start or go back to therapy. This should not be an impediment to scheduling an appointment. It is our belief that it is our job to bond well enough with your Teen that they will be willing to come back another time and give therapy a chance to create real change in their life. And remember, therapy typically produces better results when the family is supportive of the process.

All we ask of you is to ask your teenager to come to counseling once and give it a try.

DOES IT FEEL LIKE YOU ARE
BEATING YOUR HEAD AGAINST A BRICK WALL?

Often Teenagers who have had negative experiences in counseling feel that their trust and confidentiality was violated. Indeed, confidentiality (privacy) is a tricky issue. Parents and Legal Guardians have a right to know how therapy is progressing. Also, there are legal exceptions to maintaining confidentiality, usually involving safety issues, such as child abuse or actively suicidal tendencies. In general, we meet with the Teen and his/her parent(s) or guardians during the initial consultation and alert everybody to the parameters and the boundaries regarding confidentiality. When everything is made clear and transparent upfront, there is less room for misinterpretation and surprises down the road.

IS COMMUNICATION LIMITED TO YEAH, SURE, MAYBE, OR UH HUH?

Our experience dictates that Teens will have better outcomes in therapy if they engage in a collaborative person to person dialogue, which addresses their particular concerns and life situations. These interactions can be through talk therapy, but also by utilizing the expressive arts and play. Writing, Journaling, Drawing, Movement, Drama, Music, and Games can all play an important role in Teen psychotherapy. We have a variety of tools at our disposal and can tailor our approach to each individual Teenager’s unique situation and needs.
